Francisco “Don Pancho” Fernandez learned the art and craft of producing fine rum from his father, Master Distiller Don Ramon Corrales Fernandez. He was instrumental in modernizing Cuba’s rum industry in the 1970s, making a global name for Cuba’s national brand. In the 1990s, Don Pancho relocated to Panama and discovered a neglected distillery in the Herrera region of Panama. He built it into the Las Cabras Distillery, one of the most important and revered in the world today.
While Don Pancho has produced fine rum for years under other brands, he had never produced a brand under his own name. Don Pancho Origenes rums are sourced from Don Pancho’s personal stocks of aged rums, dating back more than 30 years. Known for his exacting standards, Don Pancho practices true age dating (so his 30 Year Old rum contains a blend of rums, the youngest of which is 30 years old), and his rums are produced with hand-harvested sugar cane.
