Tomahawk Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon
2015
2014
2013

Take an imaginary stroll with us to the land of Tomahawk.  Picture a perfect summer day and feel the warmth of the sun as we walk south towards this magnificent vineyard.  As we pass the intersection of two blocks just north of our destination we stop to feel a sudden change—a noticeable breeze envelops and cools us.  This is where the terroir of Tomahawk begins.  We look back north and note that the warmer Palisades are now in the far distance.

We walk up to the first row of vines and their broad cordons appear powerful and serene.  Underfoot, the volcanic soils stress the roots to produce something that no other block can yield.  To stand here is to look into the soul of Tomahawk.  2015 confirms everything we have always known about this vineyard; it has a powerful story to tell.  Join us and listen, closely.

The planting of a new vineyard can sometimes feel a bit like the experience of unrequited love. The vintner gives unconditionally without return for several years.  The focus on nuruturing the vines to establish their young roots, precludes the young vineyard from having to bear fruit.  It is typical that a young vineyard will come into balance after five or six years so that at last it can reciprocate.

Tomahawk Vineyard was precocious in its generosity from the start.  Planted in 2002, our winemaking team marveled at the quality of the fruit it set in 2006 and bottled the first Cabernet from this block.  Since then, Tomahawk has matured and traveled to a place we never imagined.  Join us in celebrating perfection.
