Hanna’s 2013 Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon was grown on Red Ranch in Alexander Valley. The 2013 growing season was a much drier version of 2012, with slightly warmer temperatures as well. Despite the early bud break, frost was not an issue in the spring. The peak summer months were moderate, resulting in steady ripening, good acid retention and intense flavor development.

Hanna’s 2012 Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon was grown on Red Ranch in Alexander Valley. The vineyard is planted to 45 acres of Cabernet Sauvignon, 10 acres of Malbec and five acres of Merlot, and vine age varies in our 2012 vintage from six to 22 years.  The 2012 growing season was the most moderate in for five years. Mild spring weather was conducive to outstanding fruit set, and a consistently warm, dry summer permitted the grapes to size-up and steadily ripen.

Length/Type of Fermentation:
We began by hand picking primarily in the cool hours from midnight to sunrise. The grapes were sorted, destemmed and partially crushed to stainless steel fermentation tanks. Pressing was done “to taste”, based on daily tastings of the wines after pumpover. The newly pressed wines were racked to tank and allowed to settle before barreling.
Length/Type of Aging:
The blend was assembled in the spring of 2013, and the wine was aged in 70% new French and Hungarian barrels.
