The Peller Estates wine legacy began when Andrew Peller, an entrepreneurial Hungarian immigrant, founded a small winery in Canada more than 40 years ago. Peller’s dream was to offer Canadians world class wines produced from Canadian-grown grapes.
He realized that dream, and today Andrew’s grandson, John Peller, oversees a state-of-the-art winery on the Niagara Peninsula on Lake Ontario. He and his winemaking team serve a fast-growing global market for icewine, a rare, luscious, and difficult-to-produce dessert wine.
Peller Estates icewines meet the stringent requirements set by the Vintners Quality Alliance. Grapes must be left on the vine well into winter, allowing them to freeze on the vine. The frozen grapes are picked by hand, sorted, and pressed in their frozen state. Water in the grapes remains crystallized, yielding but one drop of sweet concentrated juice from each grape.
With painstaking care, Peller Estates produces award-winning icewines that are aromatic, sweet and intensely flavorful, with an abundance of natural acids. Peller Estates icewines pair perfectly with fresh fruit, young soft cheeses, and less-sweet desserts. Aficionados simply sip them as they would a fine liqueur.
