Côte-Rôtie "Les Bécasses"
2007
2000

The Côte-Rotie vineyard is one of the oldest in existence in the Rhône Valley: Vienne wines were already highly reputed in Rome as far back as the first century B.C. An old, fondly told legend of Côte-Rotie recounts the story of the seigneur de Maugiron who bequeathed a hillside to each of his two daughters. One of his daughters was blond; the other brunette. Thus the names "Côte-Blonde" and "Côte-Brune" were born.

The vines of the Northern Rhône Valley cling precariously to the hillsides of the river's narrow gorge. M. Chapoutier's prime vineyards were purchased decades ago and are planted with old vines, some up to 75 years old.
