Sagrantino di Montefalco

Sagrantino di Montefalco

Sagrantino di Montefalco DOCG. The Sagrantino grape has been cultivated for centuries on the hills of Umbria and is considered indigenous to this area. This bottling is 100% Sagrantino.

Although there are various theories as to its origin, some believe it to have come from Spain. Others say it was imported by the first Franciscan Friars, and others still claim that it was brought to Italy by the Saracens. Sagrantino is grown primarily in the village of Montefalco and its surrounding area, with only 250 acres dedicated to the grape.

The DOCG makes a major contribution to the reputation the region of Umbria has earned as being a producer of fine wines. The wine was known and appreciated during the Renaissance by Popes and Governors.

The inspiration for this label, Le Mura Saracene is an ancient ruin located steps away from the Goretti winery. The imperfect stone blocks, once a protective city wall, are depicted with the vibrant colors of the ancient Saracen robes.
