Named for the year the winery was founded, the Rust en Vrede 1694 is intense and deeply opaque, with aromas of dark chocolate and licorice. It has well-integrated tannins that give the wine a full mouth feel, ending in a long, powerful finish.

Fermentation
Primary fermentation took 7 days, followed by a 21 day maceration. Pumped over and the cap manually punched down 4 times a day. Malolactic fermentation in barrels.
Aging
The Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz clones were vinified separately. Matured in 100% French oak barrels for 18 months, and then bottle matured until release.
