A more modern style of Montalcino wine, San Leopoldo is the offspring of an expert blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. The Cabernet grapes are harvested from the “Il Ferralino” vineyard, which also belongs to Tenuta Il Poggione; it was the first vineyard in Montalcino to be planted with Cabernet (in 1974).
Very intense ruby red color.
Fruity bouquet with red and dark berry notes and spicy, chocolate tones.
Austere on the palate, extremely well structured, full smooth round flavour with velvety tannins. Long finish, another hint of spices and a very clear peppery note.
