The 2009 growing season offered perfect growing conditions with a mild spring, warm summer, and cool September with two periods of heat spikes.  We presciently picked before the October rains that dampened some winemakers spirits and the resulting wine offers an elegant, traditional and age-worthy wine.

The defining characteristic of the 2008 growing season was variability with a cool spring and waves of heat and cool weather throughout the summer.  But after the ups and downs, blissfully sunny weather in September brought excellent ripening to a small crop of tiny berries.  The 2008 EPISODE fruit at crush was dark and tight and produced a wine with intense structure build for aging.

2007 had an optimal growing season, which was marked by a dry spring, warm summer and a wonderfully cool harvest. These conditions made for dense vine clusters, low yields, and thus intensely flavored berries -   a winemaker’s dream.

Bud break and slow ripening through June led into a period of intense heat in the middle of July. We had not yet trimmed back the canopy which protected the developing bunches from the sun while the long hours of sunlight contributed ripeness. A moderate August brought development back to a slow and steady pace leading into an extended harvest.

Spring rain and cool, pleasant summer temperatures provided conditions for slow, even ripening that led into a warm fall.  Harvest was later than  average, providing extended fruit hang and excellent sugar development and balanced acids. Has the potential to be a signature vintage from Napa Valley.

Heat spikes throughout the summer season created early, well developed sugars and one of the earliest harvests in Napa Valley history. Grape quality was good with a smaller than average crop.
