Cuvée Alexandre Chardonnay

Atalayas Vineyard’s rolling hills and steep exposures are the source of an array of mesoclimates that allows the production of different lots, each with a unique personality that makes up the final blend. This 2013 vintage experienced great conditions for growing in Casablanca. During December, rains of 2.11 inches at Atalayas made it the wettest December known in Lapostolle’s history. These rains supplied our water reserves and allowed the grapevines to develop without the necessity of extra summer irrigation. The result is a well integrated oak with elegant structure to enhance the natural acidity and freshness of this grape. Ideal companion for seafood, white meats or fish such as salmon and tuna.

The Cuvée Alexandre selection of single vineyard wines are grown in 100% Lapostolle–owned estate vineyards and consistently achieve 90+ points from Wine Spectator, making this 2012 vintage the 12th consecutive 90+ rating. This vintage brought great conditions for growing our Chardonnay in Casablanca. The winter was much drier and cooler than usual; in fact it was the driest in the last 10 years. The spring showed temperatures 2ºC above the normal. September was exceptionally hot; it was a small summer in the middle of the spring. The temperatures between October and November were a little bit warmer than a normal year, and allowed a nice flowering of our grapes. Summer started warmer than usual. Important daily temperature oscillation and the cold breezes from the Pacific refreshed the conditions to have cold nights, perfect to refresh the grapevine. Harvest started 2-3 weeks earlier than usual in 2012. All the grapes from our Atalayas Vineyard in Casablanca were hand harvested in small cases.

Made with organic grapes. As a general winemaking philosophy we look for elegance, balance, freshness and ageing potential in our Cuvée Alexandre Chardonnay. For the 2011 vintage, we did 75% of whole cluster pressing and 25% of maceration into the press before fermenting. 50% of the wine was fermented in French barrels, then 56% was aged in French barrels for 8 months and 44% in stainless steel tanks with no malolactic fermentation. The result yielded well integrated oak notes with a balanced palate and an elegant structure. Enjoy with fresh fish or roasted chicken.
