In the Northern Rhone the terraced slopes of Crozes-Hermitage are composed of ancient alluvial soils flecked with pebbles and granite from the river banks of the Ancient Rhone river. The vineyards face south, allowing the vines to benefit from direct sunshine during the long growing season.

La Petite Ruche means "little beehive" in French, and the wines from the young vines in this vineyard are fresh and easy-drinking.

The Crozes-Hermitage appellation was initially limited to the village and surrounding area of Crozes-Hermitage and originally designated thanks to the similarity of some of its wine to the Hermitage wines. This zone was long occupied by orchards and uncultivated land. It wasn’t until the extension of the appellation in 1952 that the vineyards were fully developed. Crozes-Hermitage wines are now well-known on their own merit.

The vineyards of Crozes-Hermitage surround the great Hermitage Hill. Sometimes called a "down-sized Hermitage," La Petite Ruche is from young vines and is all freshness and easy enjoyment. "Petite Ruche" means "little beehive," an appropriate name as the vineyards were formerly used for bee keeping.
