The vineyards used for this wine were acquired by GAJA in 1995 from a family named Gromis, hence the name, DaGromis, meaning literally, at home with the Gromis family. DaGromis is produced with Nebbiolo grapes grown in two old vineyards, one in Serralunga adjacent to the Sperss vineyard and the other in La Morra adjacent to the Conteisa vineyard.

Throughout 2013, the weather was generally colder than normal, and there was abundant rain from spring to summer. After the warm and dry 2012, these cool, humid conditions greatly helped the soils. 2013 is considered a great, classic Piedmontese vintage, both in terms of temperature ranges and harvest timing.

DaGromis is produced with Nebbiolo grapes grown in two old vineyards, one in Serralunga adjacent to the Sperss vineyard and the other in La Morra adjacent to the Conteisa vineyard.

The 2012 vintage started with a dry winter, followed by a mild spring. A light scarcity of rainfalls during the cold season along with the dryness that characterized the 2011 summer led to an anticipated bud break. The 2012 summer featured consistent warm temperatures with a shortage of sunlight. These conditions led to a slightly problematic maturation, and contributed to the winery’s decision to renounce the Sperss and Conteisa 2012 vintages. Instead, only the 2012 DaGromis was released for quality control purposes.

The 2011 winter was quite snowy, providing a good water supply for the growing season. The rainfalls during the spring were average and the temperatures were mild. The summer season was marked by warm-to-high temperatures and outstanding diurnal ranges, which led to a beautiful development of the complexity and concentration of the aromas. The brightness and clearness of the sunlight certainly were the main traits of 2011. The ripening of the grapes started earlier than usual, but steady and without any heat stress.

DaGromis is produced with Nebbiolo grapes grown in two old vineyards, one in Serralunga adjacent to the Sperss vineyard and the other in La Morra adjacent to the Conteisa vineyard. The soil of both vineyards is primarily calcareous clay and marl; altitudes range from 985 to 1475 feet above sea level; exposures are south-east and south-west. In the same spirit of its name, which pays homage to the family who farmed this land before its purchase, DaGromis is a classic expression of the Barolo appellation, with the softer red berry fruit notes elegantly rendered by the Tortonian-era soils of the cru.
