The Terlato and Chapoutier partnership in Australia began in 1998 with the discovery of a top vineyard site in Central Victoria. The result of this collaboration is the Malakoff Vineyard, which produces beautiful, provocative wines that truly stand apart.
Domaine Terlato & Chapoutier
This incredibly complex Shiraz is bright ruby in color and has a lush aroma with hints of chocolate and mint. Intense cherry and plum flavors combine with juicy tannins for a lingering finish.
Ruby-red and highly aromatic, this Shiraz is medium-bodied with a silky texture. Explosive blackberry and plum flavors are perfectly matched with elegant tannins that offer a long aftertaste.
Domaine Terlato & Chapoutier combines the vision of Anthony J. Terlato, the founder of luxury importer and marketer Terlato Wines International, and Michel Chapoutier, the esteemed Rhône grower and vintner whose compelling wines have been exalted by critics around the world. The 4 hectare Saddleback Vineyard block has North, South and East facing aspects, and sits astride the ridgeline of the Malakoff Vineyard. During the 13 year drought, there was not enough water to irrigate the vineyards and so in 2001 a decision was made to turn off the water to half of the vineyard. The L-Block and a portion of Saddleback were the only vines planted in this half of the vineyard which survived. As a result, the vines on these two blocks have lower yields that the others and have a deeper root system. In 2015, when tasting and assessing the blocks, Michel Chapoutier deemed Saddleback worthy of ‘single vineyard status’.
A spicy Shiraz with a boost of Viognier for aroma and balance, this wine shows deep color and intense aromas of red and black berries, gingersnap and black pepper spice with a brooding cedar character that lingers on the finish.
